In this presentation, presenter briefly brings up key concepts on group treatment connecting three key figures: Freud, in Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego, Wilfred Bion in Experiences in Groups, and Jacques Lacan in British Psychiatry and the war. Following this brief introduction Giraldo will use chapter 4 of his book ‘The Dialogues IN/OF the Group: Lacanian Perspectives on the Psychoanalytic Group’ ( Karnac Books 2012) to focus on a group session where acute anxiety develops in the group and the intervention of the therapist to assist the group in transforming the anxiety by maintaining the work of the group between Desire and Jouissance in a dialogue where both the Imaginary and the Symbolic retain their role in the face of the Real of trauma.
